Carnival in Ayacucho 2008

February has been the month of carnivals. And my current home city Ayacucho was not the exception. With the participation of more than 100 groups during the first day of this fest, the city literally stopped living in order to begin enjoying the party. And it was worthy to take part of it.

Together with the party organized by the organization CEDRO, more than 80 youngsters appeared on the streets singing, shouting, playing and dancing for more than 8 hours. This party was unique: we were calling for a healthy life without the abuse of drugs and the revalue of our local culture in every note of our songs. For some moments, I felt my legs surrendering to the heat, but at the end of the night, it was awesome to realize how much energy and passion came out from ourselves in order to speak up and enjoy carnival in a very traditional way.

This is an explanatory video of carnival in Ayacucho, created by a local youth organization called "Chapla Cultural". It explains the meaning, mystic and evolution of this particular fest (in Spanish). Enjoy it!
